Kyle Dougherty

Clinical Lead Physiotherapist

Kyle joined the team in October 2018 as Clinical Lead physiotherapist. He completed his Physiotherapy studies in his home country of South Africa in 2008. His dream was to work with sports people and joined a Sports Medicine Centre in Durban where he was able to hone his skills in Manual Therapy and rehabilitation. Here he was lucky enough to work with athletes of all levels and travel with teams and individuals to national and international sporting events. Including the first South African to wear the coveted yellow jersey at the Tour de France – Daryl Impey. Kyle has also spent time with his World Tour team, Mitchelton Scott.

During his Varsity days, he was heavily involved in the Varsity rugby teams. After graduating he spent 2 years working with an amateur rugby team, until his break came and was privileged to spend 7 years with Golden Arrows FC a premier league football team in South Africa as the Head of Medical and Lead Physiotherapist. He concurrently ran a busy private practice in the Sports Medicine Centre.

Kyle has completed a postgraduate certificate in Manual Therapy and brings both knowledge and experience to the clinic. As a football Physiotherapist he has vast experience in lower limbs and particularly enjoys the challenge of these injuries. He is keen on strength and conditioning and always likes to bring that into treatment sessions.

Outside of work, Kyle has recently dabbled in ultra marathons, and has completed the legendary Comrades 90km ultra marathon – he will be back next year to complete the up and down combo. His training partner is his trusty Beagle, Harvey. The rest of the team hope his speed and endurance will rub off on them too! He is also a keen golfer although the handicap doesn’t quite match the enthusiasm, and loves cycling, particularly mountain biking.

“ ..from limping, to walking/running and then full running inside of 12 months, when I wouldn’t have given that a chance of happening. 2 years after seeing Kyle, I ran a marathon. I would never have believed that could have happened. Thanks to Kyle, I am enjoying my running more than ever and will be regular disciple of his S&C sessions to reduce the risk of future injuries and to keep running!”

Hopefully if I see you again it will be in more jolly circumstances, but if similar problems occur again, I know where to turn to! Thanks so much for all your first class help and physio – you really made a big difference to my recovery
