A lotus blooms for only three to five days, and is no less beautiful for it. It gives everything while it is here, then lets go.
Our own bloom has lasted nineteen years, quieter and slower, but built on the same idea: to get you better, and keep you better. Every day of that has meant showing up with the same values, treating you with honesty and integrity, working in partnership toward your goals, and always striving to do it better than the day before.
Nineteen years in, we are still blooming, and still grateful for every one of them.
A Look Back, and a Look Ahead
Friday evenings are my quiet time. Once the clinic doors are closed, I like to sit down, clear the last of the admin and letters, and take a proper look back over the week. There is something genuinely restorative about it (a chance to breathe, before the weekend begins).
This particular Friday, though, something unexpected happened. A message popped up on LinkedIn, then another, and another, all wishing us a happy work anniversary. It took a moment to sink in. Nineteen years. Nineteen years since Nigel and I opened the doors of what has become JSSC. It rather took our breath away, and it felt only right to share that with you, since so much of these nineteen years has been shaped by the people who have trusted us along the way and the team that has shaped us too.
A Summer Party to Remember 
Last weekend we celebrated the end of the term with our summer party. We were treated to a traditional South African braai. A gastronomic feast was had by all, thanks to Kyle and Ryan manning the braai. DJ Spin(e) Doctor Mann was on the decks, and it was truly wonderful to have the whole team, together with their families, come together for some relaxed fun in the sun.
As you may have seen across our socials this week, we have a new team member, Joe Peacock. It was Joe’s second weekend in Jersey, his first having been back in June when he joined us for the advanced shoulder course.
Joe Peacock, Physiotherapist
Joe knows injury from both sides. As a footballer and athlete himself, he experienced first-hand how setbacks affect not just the body but confidence too, and it’s what drew him into physiotherapy. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Sports Therapy and an MSc in Physiotherapy, and spent five years as Head of Medical at Uxbridge Football Club, working across semi-professional, professional and international football.
Joe treats the full range of musculoskeletal conditions, from back and neck pain to sporting injuries and post-operative rehabilitation, combining hands-on manual therapy with tailored exercise programmes. Whatever the goal, recovering from surgery, resolving persistent pain, getting back to sport or simply moving more comfortably, he builds a plan around the person in front of him.
Outside the clinic, Joe practises what he preaches: he’s currently training for his first marathon, with an Ironman 70.3 in his sights.

Team Updates
It was a bittersweet weekend too, as it was one of our final ones with Abi, who has decided to return to public sector work, where she feels she has a true calling. We wish her every happiness in that next chapter, and will miss the smell of hot chocolate in the kitchen.
Meanwhile Kyle’s recovery is coming along nicely following his bike crash. He is grateful for all the kind messages wishing him a speedy recovery. Sophie Ruellan has joined the admin team. Looking ahead, we are excited to be welcoming another excellent physiotherapist to the team in September, one with a unique skillset. More on that very soon.
Classes
The timing of the party worked out well, coming as we all drew breath after the end of our summer term of Pilates and Strength & Conditioning classes. Kelly is continuing to run a few Pilates classes over the summer, but for the most part we are planning to rest, regroup, and put together what we hope will be an excellent autumn schedule. Out in the Community
This week Nigel, Will and Holly took part in the biomedical sciences programme at JCG. They loved being part of this educational forum, and were met with some really intelligent questions from the students. We hope we have inspired another generation of physiotherapists.
And tomorrow sees the beginning of the new rugby season, with Holly and Lisa firmly on the team sheet. Jersey Rugby Club were promoted to National 2 SE division. Its shaping up to be an exciting (and tough) season head. They are pictured here with the Channel Islands team. 3pm KO if you can make it!
