At The Jersey Sports & Spinal Clinic, we believe that the inclusion of dynamometry is important, – rehabilitation should be precise, purposeful, and rooted in evidence. That’s why every clinic room is equipped with state-of-the-art dynamometers, and for our athletes, VALD Force Plates provide an additional layer of performance analysis. It’s all part of our commitment to being forward-thinking, data-driven, and clinically excellent—delivering care that’s truly personalised and measurable.
What Is Dynamometry, and Why Should You Care?
Put simply, dynamometry is the gold standard for measuring muscle strength and performance. It allows your physiotherapist to assess specific muscles or muscle groups with accuracy and objectivity—not just by feel or observation, but with real data. In physio schools, they are taught to subjectively grade muscle force according to Oxford Grading score: Grade 1-5. It is entirely subjective and no two clinicians rarely agree on the grading. Imagine the difficulty of testing a professional rugby player who can deadlift 200kgs, or the body builder who can lift even more? What if the clinician cannot match the force of the client? It would be logical to grade this a Grade 5 muscle strength, but is it? How does it compare to the other side? This is why using accurate measurement is fundamental.
This technology gives us powerful insight into how your body is performing, where weaknesses may lie, and how your recovery is progressing over time. Whether you’re recovering from injury, managing a chronic condition, or looking to improve athletic performance, strength testing enables your rehab to be more targeted, efficient, and effective.
Personalised Rehab, Backed by Data
Too often, rehab is based on generic protocols or subjective guesswork. At our clinic, that’s not good enough. We use dynamometry to inform your treatment plan from day one—helping us:
- Identify muscle imbalances or asymmetries
- Tailor your exercises to the right intensity
- Track your strength gains over time
- Prevent compensatory movement patterns that can lead to re-injury
- Make better decisions about your return to sport, work, or daily life
This quantitative approach means we’re not just working hard—we’re working smart.
Avoiding Setbacks by Addressing Weakness Early
Lingering weakness after injury is one of the biggest risks for recurrence or chronic pain. Without clear data, these weaknesses can go unnoticed—until they cause problems. With regular dynamometry testing, your physiotherapist can intervene early, keeping your rehab on course and reducing the risk of future setbacks.
Why We Use the VALD Dynamo and Force Plates
As part of our dedication to best practice, our team uses the VALD Dynamo—a cutting-edge system trusted by elite sports teams, researchers, and rehabilitation specialists worldwide. For our athletic population, VALD Force Plates offer unparalleled detail in measuring power, asymmetry, and load tolerance during dynamic movements.
These tools don’t replace clinical expertise—they enhance it, allowing our clinicians to make more informed decisions with you at the centre of the process.
A Transparent, Collaborative Approach to Your Care
We believe in working in partnership with you, and that includes sharing your progress and data in a way that’s meaningful and motivating. Seeing your improvements in black and white can be incredibly powerful—whether you’re chasing a PB or simply want to return to walking pain-free.
Ask Us About Strength Testing
If you’re coming in for treatment and want to understand more about your muscle strength or performance, just ask. We’re proud to offer this advanced testing to all our clients, because we believe everyone deserves the highest standard of care—not just athletes.
Your recovery doesn’t have to be based on guesswork. With dynamometry, your rehab can be clearer, smarter, and more successful than ever.
