If you’ve booked your first physiotherapy session at the JSSC or, as some folk call us, PhysioJersey, you might be wondering what to expect. Whether you’re recovering from a sports injury, managing long-term pain, or simply looking to move better, our goal is to help you feel confident and informed from the moment you walk through our doors in IFC 6, The Esplanade, St. Helier, Jersey.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to your first appointment.
🛬 1. Warm Welcome at Our Clinic in St. Helier
When you arrive at our clinic on The Ground Floor of IFC5, The Esplanade, you’ll be greeted by our friendly reception team. We recommend arriving 5–10 minutes early to fill in any necessary paperwork, especially if it’s your first time visiting us.
🧠 2. A Detailed Assessment: We Listen First
Your physiotherapist will begin with a relaxed, in-depth conversation to understand:
- Your goals
- Your symptoms and concerns
- How the issue began and how it affects your daily life
- Any relevant medical history or previous treatments
We want to understand you — not just your injury.
🏃 3. Physical Examination: How You Move Matters
We’ll guide you through a simple physical assessment. This might include:
- Observing how you walk, sit, bend, or lift
- Testing your strength, flexibility, and balance
- Checking specific joints or muscles that may be contributing to your pain or limitation
Don’t worry — we explain everything as we go, and you’re always in control.
📋 4. Diagnosis and Personalised Treatment Plan
Once we’ve completed the assessment, your physio will clearly explain:
- What’s going on (in plain English)
- Why it’s happening
- How we’re going to help you achieve your goals
You’ll leave with a tailored treatment plan, which may include hands-on therapy, exercise rehab, posture advice, or referral to another specialist if needed.
💪 5. First Treatment — Yes, You’ll Get Started Right Away
We aim to begin treatment during your first session, where possible. This might include:
- Manual therapy (e.g. soft tissue massage, joint mobilisation)
- Taping or supports if required
- Simple rehab exercises you can start doing at home right away
Our goal is always to reduce pain and improve movement — from day one.
📲 6. Clear Follow-Up and Ongoing Support
After your session:
- You’ll receive a clear plan for next steps
- We’ll book any follow-up appointments you may need- the right treatment at the right time
- You’ll get access to rehab exercises via email or app, with video guidance
We’re also here between sessions to answer questions or adjust your plan if needed.
✅ What to Bring to Your First Appointment
- Comfortable clothing (e.g. shorts or a vest if we’re assessing limbs or posture)
- Your GP referral or scan reports (if applicable)
- Your private insurance info (we work with AXA, Bupa, etc.)
